Social Security Disability
If you have a positive diagnosis of a seizure disorder and even with medication you are having at least 1 uncontrolled seizure each month and you are not working, you most likely meet the medical requirements for disability benefits and probably do not need a lawyer.
The SSA uses a “listing of impairments” section contained in Code of Federal Regulations in order to determine if you qualify for Social Security Disability benefits. If you have a condition such as the seizure disorder described above, you can handle your own claim and may not need representation. However, if you do meet a specific listing for Social Security Disability benefits, you may need assistance in making sure all your disabilities are properly documented and all pertinent evidence is obtained and your case is presented in the most favorable light. You don’t have to hire a lawyer – you have other choices. The Social Security Administration allows you to appoint other persons, besides lawyers, to act as your representative. The SSA does not require that your representative have knowledge of an understanding of Social Security Law.
I am a paralegal who has worked 20 years with various law firms handling Social Security disability claims. I have a good understanding of the Social Security disability rules and regulations. I can give your case the personal attention that the big law firms can’t. I will take the time to get to know you and understand how your disability affects you personally. I am interested in representing those persons who truly need assistance in getting the benefits they deserve. I do not want your case if you are 58, have worked in the coal mines for the past 35 years, have a severe medical condition and have a limited education. You will qualify for benefits whether or not you have legal representation. You have worked hard for your money and you and your family are entitled to those benefits. In this scenario, if an attorney agrees to represent you they are simply taking advantage of the fact that you do not understand Social Security Law.
